In 2023, SusCha contributed £5,000 towards energy efficiency improvements at Leafield Village Hall. The grant paid for basic measures to reduce heat loss and cut energy use in an old, leaky building, including cavity wall and roof insulation. Monthly gas consumption fell by half following the improvements, which lessened the impact of rising energy prices. Electricity use also fell, although the precise impact of the measures was harder to calculate.
Gas consumption halved
Our contribution came at a critical moment when long-standing plans to renovate the village hall seemed destined to fail. Promised funding from various sources had been withdrawn and two years had been lost due to the pandemic. In addition to cutting energy consumption, the grant from SusCha has helped boost morale and revive an ambitious, multi-year plan to upgrade facilities and create a zero-carbon building.
