Kitchen Garden People

In 2020, SusCha awarded £5,000 to the Kitchen Garden People, a community food enterprise.  The grant has helped buy two polytunnels to enable vegetable growing in all seasons. The following year, we paid an additional grant of £1,450 for their agroforestry scheme to provide for fencing to protect young trees from deer.

The Kitchen Garden People operate from a plot at FarmED, a pioneering centre for regenerative agriculture near Ascott-under-Wychwood.  Support from SusCha has helped them become a flourishing community enterprise, now supplying weekly organic vegetable boxes to 120 households as well as restaurants and local food banks.

Inspiring others

Additionally, the Kitchen Garden People have been able to inspire others to create similar sustainable, locally driven, food enterprises – partly due to the link with FarmED, which hosts many people passing through for events and training courses.

In 2024, SusCha contributed an additional £6,000 towards a propagation greenhouse, enabling the cultivation of seedlings onsite and for use as an educational resource.
