SusCha has provided £8,600 of funding to improve energy efficiency standards in the Old Grammar School building which houses the Charlbury Pre-School. The recipient was the Charlbury Exhibition Foundation, a local charity, which has owned and managed the building since it was constructed in the 1830s. The principal tenant is the Pre-School which caters for children aged 2-5.
Grants were paid in three stages in 2023 and early 2024 and have gone towards installing roof insulation and secondary glazing. The project posed considerable challenges due to the building’s listed status, which meant there were tight restrictions on alterations. For example, the installation of double-glazed windows was not allowed.
Keeping energy bills down
Within these constraints, SusCha worked proactively with the Foundation to identify how limited funds could best be deployed to make the building more comfortable, reduce carbon emissions and keep energy bills down. Our support has helped ensure that an important historic asset remains useful and cost-effective for the community it was built to serve.
