“I would make sure that everybody, every school and every place of work had to sit down and listen to this”, says comedian Jennifer Saunders, introducing a 50-minute film she features in with TV naturalist Chris Packham. People’s Emergency Briefing, calls for a World War II type emergency response to the climate crisis and collapse of natural systems.
It is being shown at more than 2,000 venues across the country between April and October. The Charlbury screening takes place at The Memorial Hall on 11th June.

Climate facts made simple
People’s Emergency Briefing spells out the dire implications of climate and nature breakdown for the economy, health, food systems and national security, along with the need for urgent and immediate action. It manages to do all this in an accessible way that is not all doom and gloom.
The film is intended for a wide audience, especially people who may feel unsure or
overwhelmed by climate science.
Chris Packham provides much of the explanation, backed up by a bevy of distinguished experts. Jennifer Saunders adds warmth and a touch of humour. Contributions from the experts are intercut with members of the public talking about their fears and how climate change is affecting their lives.
The film builds on a briefing held for MPs and decision makers at Westminster late last year. It aims to persuade the government to deliver a wartime-style televised address to the nation, stressing the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for rapid, coordinated action.
Spread the word
People’s Emergency Briefing is being shown nationwide to reach the broadest possible audience. Q&A sessions with the audience will follow many of the screenings, focussing on local impacts of climate breakdown.
The intention is to rekindle urgency to an issue that has slipped down the political and the media agendas, even though the evidence for approaching climate catastrophe is now irrefutable, and polls indicate that more than 80 percent of the public see climate as a major concern.
The Charlbury screening is co-hosted by Charlbury Climate and Nature, and Sustainable Charlbury. Afterwards, there will be a short Q&A led by Claire Shakya, who lives in Charlbury and has worked on climate, energy and natural resource issues for more than 30 years.
