Dry stone walling

Saturday 27th/Sunday 28th August near Hailey

Trainer Mark Stratton. No previous experience required, Mark will show you how to prepare a wall for rebuilding, lay the footings, build the wall and complete with toppers.

Cost £90 for the weekend.

You will need old waterproof clothes and strong boots. All tools and personal safety equipment will be provided but many people like to bring their own gloves and knee pads if they have them. Bring packed lunch and drinks for the day. There is a toilet available at the farm house 200 metres away.

 

Taster days

Mondays and Tuesdays  at Widford

No previous experience required. Walling supervisor Trevor Townsend with show you the basics and work alongside you as you try your hand at this fascinating rural craft.

Wear old waterproof clothes and strong boots. Bring packed lunch and drinks for the day. Toilet available nearby.

No cost, donations welcome.

 

Scything

Monday 12th September in Witney

Trainer Clive Leeke. No previous experience necessary. Clive will show you how to set up the scythe, sharpen the blades and then how to scythe. Scythes and sharpening equipment will be available.

You will need old waterproof clothing and strong boots. Bring packed lunch and drinks for the day. No toilets nearby.

Cost £45 for the day

 

Saturday 17th/Sunday18th September at Enstone

Trainer Clive Leeke. Details as above but over two days you will get the chance to gain greater insight and experience. Also there is some indoor space so even if the weather is poor there will be dry space to practice the setting up and maintenance of the scythe. Toilets available on site.

Cost £90 for the weekend

 

Hedgelaying

Taster days Sunday 25th September and Sunday 2nd October near Hailey

Members of the Wychwood Project hedgelaying group will show you the basics and work alongside you for the day.

No previous experience necessary. Wear old waterproof clothes and strong boots All tools and personal safety equipment will be provided. Bring a packed lunch and drinks for the day. Toilet available nearby.

No cost, donations welcome.

 

Training weekend Saturday 15th/Sunday 16th October near Witney

Trainer Clive Leeke. Clive will show you the basic techniques of hedgelaying and over the two days you will have plenty of time to get a good feel for this fascinating rural skill.

Wear old waterproof clothes and strong boots. All tools and personal safety equipment will be provided. Bring a packed lunch and drinks for the day. Toilet available on site.

Cost £90 for the weekend.

If you have not already sent in your comments, I would very much appreciate it if you could spare five minutes or so to rate the importance of a range of possible outcomes, and let us know where you think the Cotswold Way should be going over the next three years and how we can work together to get it there. The new form couldn’t be more simple; just go to (the online) survey and follow the instructions.”
